Low Back Pain

Pain is not necessarily a bad thing. It's your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. Healthy backs with no problems don't normally cause you pain. Pain killers can sometimes take the edge off temporarily, but they do nothing to take care of the problem of which your body is trying to alert you. We are here to find the source of the problem and treat it. After all, healthy backs are pain free backs.

Lone Tree chiropractic low back pain

Low back pain can be caused by a number of conditions. Rest assured at Spinal Care Center of Colorado we are trained to to determine through consultation, exam, and special tests the cause of your back pain. If your pain is caused by an issue that would be better treated by another type of health professional we will make the appropriate referral, because your health is our primary concern. If your low back pain is caused by any of the sources that are best treated by a chiropractor, you will recieve the best chiropractic care available.

Your low back is suceptable to injury because it has to support a large portion of your body weight. It has to do this while allowing movement so that you can do things like bend over and pick something up off of the floor or tie your shoes. If you experience low back pain, you are not alone. At least 80% of people will experience low back pain at soome point in their lives. In fact Americans spend at least 50 billion dollars a year on low back pain. Fortunately, studies have shown that chiropractic care is more cost effective and safer than traditional medical remedies. It is the most common cause of job related disability and a leading contributor to missed work. Back pain is the second most common neurological ailment in the United States. Only the headache is more common.

What Causes Low Back Pain?

There are a number of causes of low back pain. Fortunately, most low back pain is biomechanical in nature. This means that improper aligment and or function of the spinal column and supporting structures is the most common cause. Your doctor should be able to determine whether this is the cause of your particular pain, or if it is caused by something more serious such as infection, tumor, fracture, ect.. Sometimes low back pain occurs immediately following a traumatic event such as a fall or an auto accident. Other times a person may just wake up with back pain and not know what caused it. If the back is aligned and functioning properly, it can withstand tremendous forces, but when it's not, a simple act of leaning over to pick up a tissue from the floor can cause severe pain. Our chiropractors are trained to determine the cause of your back pain and to treat it appropriately or refer you to the appropriate health care provider.

Why Is It Important to Treat the Source of the Pain?

It was once thought that low back pain would heal on its own with rest. We know now that this is not true. Pain is not the problem...it is your body's way of telling you that there is a problem. Ignoring it does nothing to correct the problem. While pain killers can temporarily alleviate pain, they do nothing to correct the underlying problem. Recent studies have shown that even if the pain goes away on its own, it will most likely return. Leaving the underlying problem untreated can also lead to long term irreversible problems such as arthritis and spinal degeneration. Ask yourself...what would happen to my pain if I treated the source of the problem.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Me?

Chiropractic care has helped millions of people with not only low back pain, but many other problems that you can read about on this site. Treatment can involve manual adjusting, soft tissue therapies(such as A.R.T.), rehabilitative exercises, and other physical therapy modalities. These procedures are much safer than surgeries or putting dangerous drugs into your system. Manual adjusting is simply applying a force to specific parts of the spine to restore proper alignment and function, and it is extremely effective when done properly. This treatment also has a profound effect on the nervous system and restores proper nervous system acticity. If you are nervous about being adjusted, there are a variety of adjusting techniqes that we use to make the adjustments as gentle as possible.

Instead of just treating symptoms of the problem, here we treat the source.
