What Is Chiropractic?Back Pain

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these dysfunctions on everyday life. Chiropractors practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractic focuses on natural and conservative health care methods without having to worry about the side effects of drugs or surgery. It recognizess that the body is able to adapt to its evironment and heal itself. We focus on correcting the cause of the problem naturally, and not just covering up the symptoms.

How Does It Work?

Science has found that the nervous system controls all other organs and tissues of the body; therefore it is essential that it functions properly in order for your body to fuction at its maximum potential. The spinal column encases the nervous system (spinal cord and nerve roots) and is responsible for its protection. In addition to protecting essential parts of your central nervous system, the sinal column must also support the body and allow for movement. Because of this intimate relationship, biomechanical and structural problems in the spinal column can irritate parts of the enclosed nervous system. This irritation can result from noxious inflammatory biochemicals released during tissue injury or may result from direct mechanical pressure. In either case, the functioning of the nervous system is negatively influenced as is the functioning of the cells, tissues and organs which are supplied by the affected nerve(s). The body's ability to respond to change and take care of itself is compromised.

How Can Chiropractic Help Me?

Chiropractors are mainly concerned with locating and treating dysfunctions of the spine and related supporting structures (such as the sacrum and ilia or hip bones). They use various methods and skills to locate misalignments, fixations or other abnormalities. They will then use one of many techniques to apply a corrective force to the affected area in order to eliminate the dysfunction. Once the affected areas are corrected, biomechanical forces on supporting joints will become normalized, and unwanted nerve interferance will be eliminated. Correcting these dysfunctions can reduce pain, increase motion, decrease stiffness and muscle spasms, increase balance and coordination, and reduce the risk of spinal degeneration and injury.

Why Should I Choose A Chiropractor?

We are specialists when it comes to back pain, neck pain, and similar. When it comes to adjusting the spine, a chiropractor is by far the safest choice. Chiropractors attend hundreds of hours of instruction in adjusting. Other health professionals attend very few if any hours of istruction in this area. This is why only Chiropractors, Osteopaths, and Medical Doctors can adjust a patient by law. Of these professionals chiropractors are the most experienced at adjusting the spine. This makes them the safest choice. If you allow someone who cannot legally adjust or someone who has very little experience at it adjust you, you increase the chances of adverse affects and even injury. You can feel confident that your chiropractor has the knowlege and skill to treat you effectively and safely.
